We all know that the ability to control the head is crucial for the development of the child.
Head control is not only how long the child can hold the head up. Real head control implies that the child is able to turn the head and move it around when he/she moves, to track with the eyes in any given position, to adjust the position of the head depending on the demands for eating, speaking, smiling, sneezing, without losing the position.
Some conditions like Cerebral palsy and other musculoskeletal or genetic disorders affect the ability of the child to develop proper head control.
How do we know a child's head control is not fully developed?
Beyond the obvious signs when he or she can not hold the head in midline when placed vertically as the head falls backward, forward or to the sides.
When the child can only hold the head up by getting tighter with the rest of the body. Sometimes the child seems "stuck" in one position and can not move or rotate the head.
We teach parents specific strategies to help their kids improve head control implementing our fascia routines.
But, a few years ago, based on the necessity of offering a solution to parents in developing countries that couldn’t find/afford commercial head support for their children, we came up with a simple yet powerful homemade support that is changing lives! This is our DIY head support.
It is simple: a sock, some batting, and an elastic band. You build it at home and your child wears it during the day.
Parents in our Facebook support group built it a” you can learn exactly how to build it, how it works and some ideas to use it to help develop head control.
• “ First support that actually works and my child tolerates it”
• “ Her tracking improved immediately”
• “ I can hold my child with only one hand and feed her”
• “ My child loves it”
• “ He wears it while we practice other therapies”
• “ My child eats with it, and she chokes less”
• “ He is so relaxed with the support on”

WeFlow´s tip for you!
Your child can wear the head support if you are planning a nice stroll around your block in the stroller or chair. The movement from the ride will serve as a stimulus to the neck to improve head control.
