We teach parents of children with cerebral palsy gentle routines so they can work on their child’s fascia.
Why do you teach parents instead of therapists?
Wouldn’t it be better if a therapist works with the child?
Therapists are an important part of your team. They have the knowledge and specific therapeutic skills to help your child, and they are the best ones to offer you a full support system.
But, when talking about fascia stimulation, the way we consider it in WeFlow, it has to be done daily for about 1 to 2 hours. Fascia needs frequent stimulation to remodel. So, having a therapist as the main fascia exercise provider could get very expensive.
Parents are always with their children. They know when is the best time of the day to work with them and they have the flexibility to work even if the child sleeps.
The techniques we use are safe, gentle, and easy to apply, and because we teach routines, parents can easily implement them at home.
In the most advanced programs (like the CoreFlow program) we combine the routines with manual therapy, and for this, yes, a therapist needs to do it. But the main work of daily stimulating the fascia is done by the parents (or other caregivers).
Therapists are always welcomed in WeFlow’s family. There are many in our Facebook group. Often, they come to the training sessions with the family they are helping to learn and to understand this approach. It is always a good idea that the whole team is aligned with the goals and the strategy.
But, in the end, are the parents the ones that need to be empowered and in control of the wheel!
